SAA Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship is given in memory of Bill Gutherie, Ann Hamilton and Susan Davison and others who have been remembered each year and is awarded in the spring of each year by SAA to a graduating Forsyth County senior. Memorial Scholarship hopefuls submit photographs of their best work, along with an essay and a letter of recommendation from a certified art instructor. Three professional artists judge the work submitted based on quality and creativity of the work submitted, understanding of the concepts of bisual art and essay content. The recipient receives a $500 scholarship, a one year membership to the SAA and an invitation to exhibit at the Sawnee Artists Gallery and the annual Bellezza Exhibit.

Benjamin Castro Receives 2008 Memorial Scholarship

Benjamin Castro, a senior at South Forsyth High School was awarded the 2008 Sawnee Artists Association Memorial Scholarship at a presentation at the Sawnee Artists Gallery on May 15th. This years scholarship was awarded in honor of Elithia Eleanor Frank. The award was presented by Scholarship Chair, Jill Morris and by Jerry Frank. Benjamin will be attending Savannah College of Art and Design in the fall.

Alanna Ford and Melanie Stam Receive 2007 Memorial Scholarships

Alanna Ford and Melanie Stam, both seniors at South Forsyth High School were awarded the 2007 Sawnee Artists Association Memorial Scholarship at a presentation at the Sawnee Artists Gallery on April 26th, 2007. It was decided that the work submitted was so outstanding that it justified awarding two scholarships this year.

Nichole Rawlings Receives 2006 Memorial Scholarship

Nichole Rawlings, a 2006 graduate of Forsyth Central High School, was awarded the Sawnee Artists Association (SAA) Memorial Scholarship in a special reception at the Sawnee Artists Gallery in the Humpus Bumpus Bookstore on Sunday August 20, 2006.
Nichole exhibited her portfolio along with several finished works at the presentation and reception. Nichole plans to pursue a double major in Fine Art and Art History at Elon University in Elon, North Carolina. The opinion of the judges was "She is a very talented artist who absolutely deserves this scholarship."

Jennifer Yang Receives 2003 Memorial Scholarship

Jennifer Yang, a 2003 graduate of South Forsyth High School, was awarded the Sawnee Artists Association (SAA) Memorial Scholarship in a special reception at the Sawnee Cultural Arts Center Monday, June 9.
Jennifer exhibited a selection of her work at the reception, including a silk batik, Japanese ink drawing and clay sculpture. In recognition of her achievement,
Jennifer has been accepted to Duke University and will begin her studies in the fall. She credits her artistic inclinations to mother who took her to countless museum exhibits as a child.
