Fly the Coop Two local members of the Sawnee Artists Association were recently honored for their art at the first annual "Fly the Coop" Gala and Auction for the "Struttin' With The Roosters" Community Art Project in Gainesville, Georgia. Anne Brody Hill painted "Come Out and Play" for her four foot entry. Her rooster was purchased by the Gainesville Parks and Recreation Board to stand at the entry of the Gainesville Civic Center. Margaret Cameron selected a patriotic theme for her bird named "Oh Say Can You Crow". Lanier Technical College purchased this work for their front landscaping. | |||||||

| January 2004 The work of SAA watercolor artist Edith Hill Smith was featured in an product brochure for the new Frederix® Watercolor Artist Canvas. Edith also participated in a test group for the new product. |

| March 2003 SAA organizes a special rotating exhibit at Northside Hospital's Forsyth Campus (formerly Baptist Medical Center). The exhibit is located in the corridor adjacent to the Emergency Room and includes works in a variety of media. Patients at the hospital (and other visitors) may purchase pieces from this exhibit by contacting the artist directly. |

| March 2003 SAA organized and collected donations for the Silent Auction at the Sawnee Cultural Arts Center's 11th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, March 1, 2003. The Auction was a great success and raised more than $3000 for increasing cultural arts programming at the Center. Thanks are due to all the SAA members who volunteered their time and to all of the generous artists and local businesses who donated Auction items. Thank you! |

November 2002 Several members of the Sawnee Artists Association provided works in various media for an exhibit at the Sawnee Cultural Arts Center's Spectacular Pre-Holiday Celebration. Event attendees commented on how pleased they were with the evening of "food, wine and the Arts" and with our exhibit. Thanks are due to SCAC for inviting us to participate! |

May 2002 Corey Bishop Awarded SAA Scholarship Corey Bishop, recipient of the 2002 SAA Scholarship, was honored for her achievement at the May 13 meeting of the Sawnee Artists Association. Corey will graduate from South Forsyth High School in June and plans to attend Auburn University as an industrial Art & Design major. Nine applications were submitted for consideration by the Scholarship Committee Judges, yet Corey's was judged the most outstanding. Participants in the program were impressed by her ability and creativity in turning a simple piece of driftwood into a folk art work of an African woman with a wire necklace. Congratulations! |

April 2002 Patricia Sistrunk name Volunteer of the Year Patricia Sistrunk, owner of "...and the angel said..." Gallery and SAA member, was recognized by the Forsyth County School System and the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce as Volunteer of the Year. Patricia received the award (pictured at left) at the Chamber's annual Partners in Education (P.I.E.) Celebration Luncheon at the Sawnee Cultural Arts Center. The award is sponsored jointly by local Kroger stores and the Chamber of Commerce and was given to Patricia in honor of her outstanding service in teaching art to English as a Second Language Program students. Congratulations, Patricia! |
